All of The Future: In Celebration of Children

December 10, 2018 at 7:30 pm

Fear No Music in partnership with Outside In, SMYRC, New Avenues for Youth, and BRAVO Orchestras, presents a concert performance of emotional new works that tackle major issues for today’s youth such as gun violence, homophobia, migration, suicide and grief. Famously described in a 1981 US Department of Health Survey as “one-third of the population and all of the future,” modern-day children face unique and unprecedented challenges throughout the world. As part of its 2018-19 season “Worldwide Welcome,” a celebration of diversity and inclusivity through music, this concert provides an amplified voice for our youth and offers an unusual opportunity for catharsis.

Concert program includes:

Larry Bell – Newtown Variations for viola and piano, op. 138

written in memory of the 26 people killed in Newtown, CT on Dec. 14th, 2013

David Del Tredici – Matthew Shepard for baritone and piano

a searing memorial to the young man whose brutal murder 20 years ago has inspired art, activism, and hate crime legislation

Mary Kouyoumdjian – A Boy And A Makeshift Toy for viola and piano

an examination of the human cost of conflict, offered through the lens of a young child as he attempts to find a playful moment amidst the chaos of the Bosnian conflict in the 1990s

Nadir Vassena – come perduto nel mare un bambino… for solo flute

“child lost at sea” pays tribute to the wave of African refugees crossing the Mediterranean

BRAVO composers collective – Break the Cage

a collective compositional response from BRAVO students to the recent ICE policies regarding immigration
